East & West U.S. mountain pass directory for truckers, RV and motorhome drivers.

In an effort to make mountain driving a little safer for RV and truck drivers, we have been collecting and publishing information on mountain passes and steep grades since 1993. Mountain Directory West includes descriptions of over 400 locations in eleven western states, and Mountain Directory East includes descriptions of over 300 locations in eleven eastern states.Over 130,000 printed copies of Mountain Directory West and Mountain Directory East have been sold. In response to many customer requests, both Mountain Directory West and Mountain Directory East are now available as phone and tablet apps. Anyone who has experience driving large or heavy vehicles in mountainous terrain will know the value of this information. And those who dont have mountain driving experience need it even more. Learning the hard way can be, well, hard.Mountain Directory West includes locations and descriptions of over 400 mountain passes and steep grades in the following states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming. Mountain pass locations are marked with a yellow triangle on beautiful color relief maps. Touching a yellow triangle on the screen displays text that describes that location. The text includes how long the grade is, how steep (%) it is, if it is two lane, three lane, or four lane, if it has sharp curves, switchbacks, escape ramps, sharp drop offs, etc.The 300 locations covered in Mountain Directory East are in the states of Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Some people are under the impression that the grades in the eastern mountains are not as serious as the grades in the western mountains. Apparently this is because the elevations are not as high in the eastern states. But elevation alone is not the problem-it is the change in elevation that makes a grade potentially hazardous. Many times, eastern grades are even steeper than western grades, often in the 8 to 10% range. And because of the terrain, the roads are often narrower and more winding than the roads out west. The price for the Mountain Directory West is $16.99 and the price for the Mountain Directory East is $14.99. The Mountain Directory East and West Combined costs only $24.99, or $7.00 less over buying them individually. As time goes on, we intend to add much more information and new features to the apps, all of which will be included in free upgrades. And this is important, the information resides on your device so it is always available even when you are many miles from a cell tower. It is there when you need it most. For more information, descriptions, examples, and 17 magazine reviews, please check out our website, www.mountaindirectory.com and then come back here to purchase the app. This version contains Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to allow zooming on the maps.

We had the books but this travels better. It could be a little easier to use, but once you get the hang of it it's ok. Invalid info for RVing in the mountains.

Love it!

Tim Griffin

Difficult to use, not that good of an app. I just don't like it. I ordered the books and I hope they are better.

Sitting at nearly $30 I could have went and bought the book. However the app holds a lot of good information and, even though it isn't always easy to use, it gets the job done. As many said pictures and video might help, but after driving for so long all the hills look the same so I don't think it would with some.

Wonderful concept but when I touch one of the flags for details, the map shrinks and the area I clicked disappears. You have to scroll back to it which is very difficult on this app and touch it again. This repeats 4 or 5 times till I very forcefully smash my finger on the flag. Very unfriendly. Please fix.

Sue Cook

Very useful information. For the price, you would think it would be easier to use. As mentioned scrolling around the map is bad. I didnt think it could be that bad. It really is that bad. My advice, the app has good information but do not rely on it in a hurry. If the developer is listening, just fix the scrolling.

The app will not work on my LG G6 running Android 7.0 but runs great on my Samsung Tab S running Android 4.4.2. The ability to zoom on the maps would be a great improvement. The concept itself is a great one and it's a must have tool for truckers and anyone driving a heavy vehicle. I'd just recommend getting the physical copy until the issues in the app get ironed out.

The navigation was a little antiquated but workable. Seems to be a pc program made to work on android. But I paid for the info contained within and find it to be well worth the purchase price. I contacted the author via email and phone and he personally took the time to answer all my questions about program. You just dont get that kind of service anymore. Very pleased with my purchase. We just did a 6k trip from fl to ca and back via ut & co. and found the info dead on. Thanks for a great program.

Can't scroll down to see the entire description of the grade. Defeats the purpose of buying the app. Uninstalled for refund.

In the books you could not add video but you could add pictures, in the apps why not add video of the decents, or at least links to videos of the decents.
